Tyre retreading or renewal is a technology that makes used tyres usable by replacing a worn and damaged outer/tread layer with a new tyre layer.

The base of the tyre is much more durable than the tread and that is why tyre retreading is being developed as an environmental technology, because the amount of waste from tyre use is reduced by up to 70%.

The selection of tyres for retreading begins with a visual inspection of tyres. The inspection determines whether the usage caused damage to the tyre base, as well as the possibility of repairing these damages.

If the first visual inspection reveals that there is a possibility of repair, then the remaining part of the tread is removed or sanded on a special machine, taking special care not to damage the bearing structure of the tyre.

The sanded rubber undergoes another inspection, after which the carcass is repaired by filling in minor damages with raw rubber and strengthening the structure with radial patches, if necessary.

After the repair procedure, a special glue is applied to the sanded and prepared tyre with a syringe, followed by a thin layer of raw rubber which serves as connective material. Prior to application of the specially prepared tread surface, a new layer of glue is applied and bubbles are broken to prevent air retention.

The prepared and processed tyre is vacuumed in special envelopes and vacuumed in order to enable better bonding of the applied new rubber layers. Tyre vulcanization is performed in chambers under pressure at temperatures of over 100 degrees for several hours.

After vulcanization, the tyres pass the final control on the test bench, after which they are ready for use.

The process of retreading truck tyres is carried out pursuant to the provisions of the international regulation ECE 109R in order to ensure uniformity of the process.
